After care is VERY important for producing a beautiful and lasting result. Failure to follow after care instructions may result in infections, pigment loss or discoloration. Getting the best outcome for your tattoo is 20% in clinic treatment, and 80% at home aftercare.
It’s important to note that:
The treated area will be darker and bolder in colour and more defined. This can last up to a week after the treatment while the initial healing process takes place. It may feel a bit like sunburn afterwards but there should be minimal discomfort. Redness and swelling are minimal. There can be scabbing or flaking of the skin. The complete healing process takes about 4-6 weeks, at which time the true colour of the tattoo is evident. During this process, your tattoo will soften and lighten. You may think you have lost too much colour. Be patient, your skin is still regenerating and exfoliating. The skin releases 30-40% of the ink through out the healing process. Different skin types have different healing time and retention.
Keep the area clean, wash hands with anti bacterial hand wash before touching your new tattoo.
Day 1-2 Every 2-3 hours take a clean baby wipe (or damp cotton round) and gently wipe/dab your fresh tattoo, pat dry with a clean tissue then apply a small amount of aftercare cream to each brow. Day 2 - 14 Each morning and night, take a clean baby wipe (or damp cotton round) and gently wipe through your brows, pat dry with a clean tissue then apply a small amount of aftercare cream.
Do not use a washcloth or sponge to clean.
Do not use cleansing creams, acne cleansers or astringents.
How to protect your tattoo
Apply aftercare cream as directed - this is to protect your tattoo. Use the cream very sparingly. Too little is better than too much. We want your skin to breathe and not clog your pores. Never touch the procedure area without washing your hands immediately before. We recommend Bepanthen for your after-care cream, you can find this at your local pharmacy.
Keep brows clean and dry for the first 2x weeks - Lips need to be kept clean and dry for x1 week. Avoid getting brows or lips wet in the shower and gently clean around brows and lips for the first 2x weeks, x1 week for lips.
No makeup, moisturizer or cleanser directly on the brows or lips for 2 weeks. Avoid sweating for the first week to avoid bacteria in the brows or on the lips.
No picking or itching the brows or lips during the healing phase as this can pull the pigment out.
Do not scrub, rub or pick at the epithelial crust that forms. Allow it to flake off by itself. If it is removed before it is ready the pigment underneath it can be pulled out.
The healing process of your tattoo will have many stages. It will appear darker and more intense than expected for the first few days, this is normal. Your tattoo may then become dry, flakey and appear crackled - this is also normal. Once the flakes have fallen off, a shiny layer of healing skin will completely cover the treated area. It may appear as though the tattooed area has completely disappeared. Within 1-2 weeks, the pigment will slowly reappear at a lighter shade as your skin regenerates.
Different arears of your tattoo may heal at different times, this can cause the tattoo to appear patchy. The true appearance of your tattoo will be at the 4-6 week mark.
Once healed - After 4-6 weeks
Going Back for Reassessment and Touch-ups. Your touch up should be performed minimum 5 weeks from initial procedure. We check how your skin has taken the colour and make necessary adjustments. Semi Permanent makeup last anywhere from one to ten plus years. How long depends on many different factors such as skin type, stubborn skin, lifestyle, hormones and aftercare. Many clients get a touch up once every 12-18 months to maintain the shape and saturation of pigment. As with any tattoo, sun exposure will make the colour soften faster. Wearing sunscreen will keep it from happening so fast. But you should not wear it before everything is completely healed (4-6 weeks). Skin type, lifestyle, aftercare, capillary health and maintenance play a role in the longevity of your tattoo.
